Grizzly 399, a renowned bear who roamed the Grand Teton National Park and Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming for decades, captivated the hearts of millions with her remarkable story of resilience, motherhood, and grace. An extraordinary mother, she successfully raised 18 cubs, demonstrating her remarkable maternal instincts and her ability to thrive in challenging conditions.  Her lineage includes at least 24 descendants—cubs, grandcubs, and great-grandcubs. Sadly, it is believed that roughly half of them have died, mostly due to human activity.

Known for her frequent appearances near roads within Grand Teton National Park, 399 became a symbol of hope and a testament to the delicate balance of nature. While she was often seen in these accessible areas, her range extended across a vast expanse within the park and the surrounding forest, particularly around Pilgrim Creek, a significant location in her life.

Unfortunately, 399 passed away on October 22, 2024, leaving a profound void in the hearts of wildlife enthusiasts and conservationists worldwide. This significant loss underscores the importance of honoring her legacy and raising awareness about the critical challenges facing grizzly bear populations.
